Terms of access and use relating to the www.livingisforeveryone.com.au website

You agree in relation to any material and/or information you provide to the Living Is For Everyone (LIFE) Website and/or LIFE Communications that:

  • You are over the age of 18
  • You are authorised to provide the material and/or information
  • The material and/or information provided is not any way defamatory or a malicious falsehood in relation to any product, service, person or corporation
  • The material and/or information provided does not infringe any copyright, confidential information and intellectual property right including, but not limited to, trade marks, service marks or business names (whether registered or unregistered)
  • The material and/or information provided does not promote a commercial service or product and which would be tantamount to advertising
  • That there are no legal impediments to the information being made publicly accessible.

Registration terms

Registered users of the Living Is For Everyone (LIFE) website can contribute directly to forums and participate in real-time chat sessions. The registration terms are based upon the principles of first ‘do no harm’ limiting the exposure of the LIFE website users to harmful or unsuitable materials.

Contributions to the LIFE website should:

  • make a positive contribution to the field of suicide and self-harm prevention
  • foster constructive exchanges between professionals working within the sector.

Contributions to the LIFE website should not:

  • use obscene language
  • harass, insult or attack others
  • be defamatory
  • involve or advocate illegal activities
  • violate human rights
  • contravene copyright laws
  • display offensive and/or pornographic images
  • harm or disturb users
  • have depictions that condone or incite any kind of violence
  • portray any person in a demeaning manner.

LIFE website registration may be revoked if an individual or group fails to meet the criteria for registration with the LIFE website or behaves in an unsatisfactory manner.

Moderation of contributions to the LIFE discussion forums

The LIFE discussion forums are designed to facilitate a safe and meaningful discussion platform for people working in suicide and self-harm prevention.

Understanding safety is paramount for all suicide and self-harm prevention activities. Potential risks exist when sharing distressing material. Therefore, developing interaction policies and procedures will assist users to feel at ease with the sharing of information in the LIFE discussion forums.

6.1 Aim

To facilitate a safe and meaningful discussion forum for stakeholders within the suicide and self-harm prevention sector.

6.2 Process

In order to view and contribute posts to the discussion forums, users will first need to register for the LIFE Professional Development Network. If their registration is approved the user can login using their email address and password, which will be provided by a LIFE Communications staff member.

6.2.1 Access 

  • After successfully logging into the secured PDN section, users will have the opportunity to view previous posts and add their own.
  • All contributions posted to the forum will appear instantly.
  • All people accessing the discussion form are working in the sector.

6.2.2 Threads

Discussion threads will be established to facilitate the following:

  • ensure discussion is focused on suicide and self-harm prevention
  • highlight issues most pertinent to the sector

Professional Development Network members are able to suggest thread topics by emailing life@ontheline.org.au.

6.2.3 Notification to forum members

When logging into the LIFE discussion forums participants will be reminded of their agreement to the terms and conditions. These include:

  • members must be  over 18 years old
  • the site contains material uploaded, posted, emailed or otherwise electronically transmitted by users and members of the site and does not necessarily represent the view of LIFE Communications
  • content viewed and provided is at the user’s own risk
  • network users must be aware of issues may arise while using the forum such as:
      • suicide ‘method’ may be mentioned (where appropriate)
      • the LIFE forum operates on an international platform where cultural sensitivities may vary
  • members acknowledge LIFE Communications takes no responsibility or liability for the deletion or failure to store any communications, maintenance of other content information transmitted to the site
  • members contributing a post to the discussion forum recognise that:
    • the material is not confidential or owned by any other person
    • the material is not illegal, defamatory and will not expose LIFE Communications to any civil or criminal liability
  • the discussion forum is monitored for safety and quality purposes
  • LIFE Communications reserve the right to access or examine any member content
  • LIFE Communications is not responsible for any content found on a third party page or any site of which it forms a part. It is the responsibility of the member to determine the risk and appropriateness of any site each time they follow an external link
  • use of the site is at the member’s own risk
  • a professional level of discussion must be maintained at all times. Any inappropriate threads will be removed immediately
  • network users acknowledge that LIFE Communications may exercise its sole discretion and with or without notice:
    • vary the site or any part of the site
    • modify or discontinue any part of the site, and the services available on it


Terms and conditions for the LIFE Professional Development Network

LIFE Professional Development Network registration provides access to the secure section of the LIFE website, in particular the discussion forum and the live chat. Registration to the LIFE Professional Development Network constitutes ongoing agreement to LIFE’s terms and conditions:

  • as a LIFE Professional Development Network member you understand information provided on the website or any LIFE resource is for personal and/or educational use only, and is provided in good faith without any express or implied warranty. In no way does the information provided substitute for qualified professional advice. In such instances users should seek information from a qualified professional
  • as a member you adhere to the philosophy of mutual respect, support, trust cooperation and open communication between sectors such as health, mental health, business and occupational health and safety
  • while individual case studies may be mentioned they must not contain detail that could in any way reveal the identity of the people involved   
  • as a member you fairly and correctly represent yourself on the LIFE website at all times
  • as a member you are working in some capacity (paid or voluntary) within the suicide and self-harm prevention sector and/or related health fields
  • as a member you agree you will not use the site to distribute any material knowingly false and/or defamatory or inaccurate, abusive, vulgar, hateful, profane, harassing, sexually oriented, threatening, invasive of persons privacy or otherwise violate of the law
  • as a member you will not facilitate access for non-members
  • as a member you acknowledge that LIFE Communications takes no responsibility or liability for the deletion or failure to store any communications, maintenance of other content information transmitted to the site
  • you agree that LIFE Communications reserves the right to delete or modify any content for any reason
  • you agree that LIFE Communication reserves the right to deny registration to LIFE Professional Development Network applicants or to revoke registrations at anytime
  • as a member you will not promote advertisement, chain letters, pyramid schemes and other solicitations that constitute inappropriate content for the site
  • members self-indemnify when accessing the LIFE website and any other LIFE resource
  • members adhere to LIFE’s disclaimer, including Australian copyright laws (even if you are not a resident of Australia)
  • LIFE Communications reserves the right to disclose personal information in the following circumstances:
    • LIFE Communications believes there is a serious or imminent threat to LIFE Communications, health or safety
    • to investigate or report activity believed to be unlawful
    • to enable an enforceable court or tribunal to perform its functions, such as:
      • the prevention, detection, investigation, prosecution or punishment of criminal offences
      • the preparation and conduct of proceedings before any court or tribunal, or implementation of the orders of the tribunal
  • members posting a message to the website e.g. discussion forum or live-chat constitutes:
    • the material provided is not confidential or owned by any other person
    • the material provided is not illegal, defamatory and will not expose LIFE Communications to any civil or criminal liability
  • content viewed and provided is at the LIFE Professional Development Network members own risk.
