Living Beyond Suicide

Description

A free program providing practical and sensitive  support to families and individuals bereaved though suicide. Staff and specially trained volunteers can offer home visits and telephone support. The service is available from 10am to 10pm, seven days a week. Anyone in the community can contact Living Beyond Suicide directly to access support.

Living Beyond Suicide hosts the annual walk of remembrance “Walk Through the Darkness” in November. The program also offers community education.

Description

The Suicide Call Back Service is a national professional telephone and online counselling service for people affected by suicide, including:

-      people at risk of suicide
-      people worried about someone who may be suicidal
-      people bereaved by suicide
-      professionals working with suicidal clients. 

The service includes a 24/7 telephone counselling service for immediate crisis support. This is complemented by ongoing support for eligible clients through six telephone counselling sessions with the same counsellor. Online counselling is also available through the Suicide Call Back Service website.

Mental Illness, Bereavement and Suicide Prevention Project

Description

This project has a particular focus on preventing suicides within the mental health sector. There is an emphasis on giving mental health workers the tools and support that they need to prevent suicidal crisis from occurring. There is also a focus on preventing further suicides by supporting the friends and family of with mental illness who are bereaved by suicide. By providing workers with tools necessary to have a holistic response to suicide we aim to prevent suicides in a population of people at particularly high risk of suicide – those with persistent mental illness.

Description
Short to medium term bereavement counselling for those bereaved by suicide. ARBOR is complemented by its Volunteer Peer Supporters - volunteers who have been bereaved by suicide and volunteer their time to accompany Counsellors to walk alongside the newly bereaved. ARBOR is proud to offer training packages to professionals such as suicide bereavement and awareness training and Grieving Aboriginal Way training. ARBOR is also able to offer emergency debriefing, support for workplace, education and training settings, telephone counselling (by appointment) and support groups. ARBOR has MOUs with organisations and services such as the Coronial Counselling Service, Samaritans WA and City of Armadale to enhance support for those in need of a bereavement service.

Description
The StandBy Response Service provides people bereaved by suicide with access to timely support and clear pathways to care. The service provides immediate response to people bereaved by suicide via its 24-hour crisis response telephone number. From there, people bereaved by suicide can receive face-to- face outreach provided by a skilled crisis response team and/or referral to appropriate support service matched to their need.
